Common questions
The list says there are no stations near me
Most of the North American landmass is a long way from tidal water, so this is a normal answer rather than a fault. Search for a station by name or region, or open the Map tab and drop a pin near the coast you are heading to.
I denied location and want to change that
The app works without it — search and the map are fully functional, you just do not get distances. To grant it: iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Find My Tide. Android Settings → Apps → Find My Tide → Permissions → Location.
The times look wrong by several hours
Times are shown in the station's local timezone, not your phone's. Read a Maine station from Denver and you will see Eastern time. This matches how official tide tables are published, and it is the only way a forecast for somewhere else is readable.
The height does not match what I see at the water
Predictions are astronomical. Actual water level departs from them because of barometric pressure, wind, storm surge and river discharge — routinely by 0.1–0.3 m, and by a metre or more in a storm. Heights are also stated against the station's chart datum, which is a fixed reference and not the same as depth where you are standing.
The curve between the highs and lows looks smoothed
For about 60% of US stations, it is. NOAA publishes full harmonic constants for 1,250 stations; the other 2,242 are subordinate stations, where NOAA derives high and low water by applying time and height corrections to a nearby reference station. The turning points are as accurate as NOAA's own published tables — the curve drawn between them is a smooth approximation rather than a computed one.
My spot is not a station
Drop a pin on the Map tab. The forecast comes from the nearest station and the app says which one and how far away it is. Past about 50 km the app tells you the station is distant, because it is: prediction quality falls off with distance, and it falls off faster in inlets, estuaries and narrow straits than on open coast.
Will you add the UK, Australia, or somewhere else?
Each country needs its own licensed dataset, so it is a real piece of work rather than a switch. Tell us where you are and it goes on the list.
Metres or feet
The toggle is on any station's detail screen and applies everywhere, including water temperature — °C with metres, °F with feet. It is remembered between launches.
Not for navigation
Find My Tide is not suitable for navigation. Do not use it to plan safe passage, clearance or anchorage. Use official tide tables and charts from your national hydrographic office.
Reporting something wrong
For a prediction that looks wrong, send the station name, the date and time, what the app showed, and what you were comparing it against. Predictions are checked against NOAA's published tables on every build, so a genuine disagreement is worth knowing about and is usually reproducible.
