Privacy policy

Find My Tide collects nothing about you. There is no account to create, no identifier assigned to your device, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDK doing any of those things on our behalf.
Your location
The app asks for your location once, to sort the station list by distance and to centre the map on you. That coordinate never leaves your device. The distance sort and the nearest-station lookup both run on the phone, against a station catalogue the app already has.
You can refuse. The app does not degrade into an error screen — the station list stays searchable by name and region, and the map still lets you drop a pin anywhere.
What our server does see
The app talks to one server we run, at api.findmytide.com, for three
things: the station catalogue, tide predictions for Canadian stations, and current
weather.
The weather request carries a coordinate — the published coordinate of the tide station you are looking at, taken from the public catalogue, not a reading from your device. If you dropped a pin, it is the coordinate of the nearest station to that pin, not the pin. These are fixed, public locations; thousands of people request the same handful of them.
Like any web server, ours processes the IP address your request arrives from in order to answer it. We do not log requests to build a profile, we do not join them to anything, and there is no identifier in a request that would let us do so.
What we store about you
Nothing. There is no database of users, because there are no users to put in one.
Your choice of metres or feet is stored on your own device so it survives a relaunch. It is never sent anywhere.
Who else is involved
- Cloudflare hosts our server and this site, and processes requests as our infrastructure provider.
- Open-Meteo supplies weather. Our server calls them with the station coordinate; your device never contacts them, and they never see your IP address.
- Apple and Google distribute the app, and report their own aggregate install and crash statistics to us. That is their collection under their policies, not ours — we cannot identify you from it.
There is no advertising network, and no analytics vendor, of any kind.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that affects what leaves your device would come with an app update, not a quiet edit here.
